Founded by Erzsi Deak in 2010, Hen&ink Literary Studio represents authors and illustrators in the children’s (and some adult) markets. We champion imaginative, emotive, and funny books full or heart, and take an editorial approach when collaborating with our clients from around the world.
Our clients have been awarded the ALA Notable, the Irma Black Award, and the Julia Ward Howe Award. Hen&ink books regularly receive starred reviews from Kirkus, Booklist, Publishers Weekly and are selected by the Junior Library Guild. They are often featured as Best Books by the New York Public Library, Bank Street College, Kirkus, the CCBC, Mighty Girl, and other prestigious institutions.
A California native, Erzsi Deàk brings 30 years of experience connecting creators and companies to make things happen. She is a member of the Association of Authors’ Representatives and specializes in English-language children’s literature for the US and UK markets.
Before founding Hen&ink, Erzsi ran the international arm of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) for ten years, developing and mentoring writers, illustrators and publishing programs in 28 countries. She founded and organized the French chapter of the SCBWI and the SCBWI Bologna Conference, and was awarded the SCBWI Member of the Year in both 1999 and 2008. Erzsi edits the SCBWI BULLETIN international page, “Here, There & Everywhere.” Since 2009, she has scouted English-language properties for French children’s imprints Seuil and La Martinière.
Erzsi enjoys speaking to adults and kids about books and the creative process. Please contact The Booking Biz to organize a presentation.
