About Bruce Balan
Since 2005, Bruce has been sailing slowly around the world aboard his 14-meter red trimaran Migration (named after his first book, The Cherry Migration). Life at sea is not conducive to improving social media skills but absolutely perfect for honing one’s ability to be happy. He and his wife, Alene D. Rice, have sailed over 40,000 miles to extraordinary places such as Easter Island, Pitcairn, Nuku Hiva, Tonga, Fiji, and Komodo. Bruce often speaks about writing to students at remote island schools. Bruce has published 15 books for young readers including the Cyber.kdz Series, What I Saw at Sea, Cows Going Past, and Buoy – Home at Sea, which was the recipient of the Parent’s Choice Gold Medal for Picture Books. His books have been translated into 10 languages.
