Hen&inkblots: A Literary Blog

The Next Open Coop Day is July 1st, 2016, noon to midnight Pacific Standard Time

June 2, 2016 by Erzsi Deak

Greetings from somewhere under the submissions pile!

Due to an avalanche of submissions and on-going deals (yes, we sell books!), we need to cancel June’s Open Coop Friday.

BUT, in an attempt to make more people happy and to find great voice-y and character-driven books written from the emotional core with poignancy and smart humor, we are opening the July Open Coop Day to everything from Board Books to YA, fiction and nonfiction.

OPEN COOP FRIDAY: July 1, 2016, from noon to midnight, Pacific Standard Time.

Please visit our SUBMISSIONS page to see what we love and know that we love our books! In the picture book realm, if you haven’t read Whitney Stewart’s BIG SKY MIND or A CATFISH TALE; Laura Gehl’s PEEP & EGG; Susan Montanari’s MY DOG’S A CHICKEN; Andrea Zuill’s WOLF CAMP; Doug Cushman and my PUMPKIN TIME!, then get on it! In YA, Ann Jacobus and Siobhan Curham tackle dark and heavy subjects with a light hand in ROMANCING THE DARK IN THE CITY OF LIGHT (Jacobus) and MOONLIGHT DREAMERS (Curham). And J.M. Lee steals the fantasy prize with SHADOWS OF THE DARK CRYSTAL! Siobhan’s TRUE FACE is also a testament to the best kind of GIRL POWER — your own! On the back list, Siobhan’s DEAR DYLAN and FINDING CHEROKEE BROWN remain some of Erzsi’s favorite books (and not just because Siobhan was our first chick in the Coop!). Reading any and all of the above titles will give you an idea of what makes this hen, well, cluck. Many projects on the horizon, and maybe one will be yours, so please send your best, most finished work when it’s ready!

Send your polished prose, log line, one-page-synopsis and finished illustration (links) to:
submissions A T  henandink.com

Keep the hens happy: Anything of another genre or anything received outside of the Open Coop Day and time-frame and formatted so it’s impossible to read (we are talking we need 12 pt type double-spaced), will be deleted. Sorry, it’s about survival.

Stay tuned via henandink.com, Facebook, and Twitter for updates and more details.

One submission per person, please.
