Direct from Los Angeles! Sara Jane Boyers in Paris
Hen & Ink Literary is pleased to announce Los Angeles-based writer/photographer Sara Jane Boyers’ long-term fine art photograph project DETROIT:DEFINITION, part of the DETROIT exhibition at Galerie Claude Samuel (69, ave Daumesnil, Paris 12). The opening of DETROIT will be held during the 20th edition of Paris Photo fair, on Thursday, 10 November at 6:30pm. Sara will also be at the gallery from 2:00pm to 6:00pm on Saturday, 12 November. The exhibition continues to 24 December.
DETROIT:DEFINITION is a study of Sara’s place of birth, from its peak as the symbol of America’s 20th Century industrial power to its subsequent fall and rebirth as as a model of America’s new creativity and resilience for 21st Century America. At Galerie Claude Samuel, Sara’s photographs are paired with those of French photojournalist Guillaume Rivière, whose work on Detroit provides a fascinating second look on this much-discussed, ever-changing American city.
Sara comes to Hen&ink with a strong visual arts perspective in both her previous projects and her future books for youth, with a touch of social activism. Her artwork carries a highly visual and abstract quality that draws the viewer closer to each subject. She is also a writer, and notably the author of the award-winning LIFE DOESN’T FRIGHTEN ME, where Maya Angelou’s verses are married to the expressive artwork of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Sara is available for presentations and talks while she is in Paris (6-16 November). Contact us here!
